The question of what the MTS video format is, as it turns out, is quite topical, since not all users of household appliances and computer systems know what it is. Now we will try to deal with some issues of the format representation itself, as well as consider how to edit it and convert it to other formats.
What is the MTS format?
Actually speaking, the concept of what a format of this type is is not too complicated. The fact is that it is now used in almost all modern camcorders and, in fact, is an analogue of high-quality Full HD video (not to be confused with the.ts DVD-video format).

The use of the MTS format is associated not only with increased quality, but also with the fact that most cameras do not record on the internal memory of the device (which, by the way, is simply absent in most cases), but directly on a removable card memory type SDHC. This approach made it possible to simplify the design of devices and significantly reduce their size, which cannot be said about the size of the final file of the captured video. Temnevertheless, working with this format is possible, and even very simple.
Editing methods
It seems that the question of how to open the MTS format is not worth it today. In principle, any software or household player can play it without any problems. Another thing is if the video captured on the camera needs to be edited. This is where, unfortunately, many of the problems begin. The fact is that you can open the file and edit it in most programs, but, alas, you won’t be able to save it in the initial format.

But there is a way out. For example, you can use a specialized utility called Aimersoft Video Editor. But there are pitfalls here. First, the program is shareware. Secondly, you can save the finished material only when converting to MP4 format. Thirdly, while the trial period lasts, a watermark constantly appears on the video material. There is only one way to remove it from the video - to buy a full licensed version. Not very convenient, right?
MTS file format: conversion
The easiest way is to first use Aimersoft Video Converter Ultimate and MTS format to any other format, for example, to the same MP4, and then edit the material, say, using the Camtasia Studio package or some other advanced video editor.

By the way, the converter also has a built-in editor that allows you to perform simple actions such as rotating a video, changing contrast, saturation orbrightness, as well as add simple effects.

Particularly pleased with the ability to rotate, because sometimes the video is filmed in a 90-degree angle, compared to normal mode. And here everything is simple: I turned the frame and immediately converted the MTS format into something else. Well, then edit, as far as your imagination is enough.
However, what exactly to convert or edit video files, everyone decides for himself, because today you can find quite a lot of the same free video converters and professional packages for editing it, moreover, those used by world-famous studios. So, as they say, there should be no problems.
Result
Summing up a certain result, it can be noted that there is nothing difficult in understanding the format itself or the means of converting and editing it, in general. You can work with it like with any other video material. The only catch is that in free or shareware programs, after editing, saving the file in the original format simply will not work. But, as you can see, there is a way out, and quite simple. Again, by what means exactly you will convert the MTS format to another or further process the material, it is very difficult to advise only because there are simply a lot of such programs today.
